एपीआई का फुल फाॅर्म सक्रिय औषधि सामग्री है, जिसे हिंदी में सक्रिय फार्मास्युटिकल सामग्री कहा है। किसी दवा को वह हिस्सा जो किसी स्थिति का इलाज के लिए बाॅडी पर इच्छित स्वास्थ्य प्रभाव पैदा है उसे एपीआई कहते हैं। कार्डियोलॉजी, न्यूरोलॉजी, नेत्र विज्ञान आदि जैसे रोगों को ठीक के उद्देश्य से दवाओं में सक्रिय दवा सामग्री (एपीआई) का अनुप्रयोग है। सक्रिय दवा सामग्री (एपीआई)  का एक उदाहरण एसिटामिनोफेन है, जो दर्द निवारक गोलियों में पाया है, यह एक सक्रिय फार्मास्युटिकल घटक का है। 2020 में महामारी शुरू हुई और चीन में आपूर्ति श्रृंखला बाधित हुई, तो कच्चे माल की कमी से फार्मा उद्योग कुछ समय के लिए प्रभावित था।
