LMIA stands for Labor Market Impact Assessment. The LMIA is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and is required by a Canadian employer who needs to hire a foreign temporary worker. A positive LMIA from an employer means that: -Hiring the temporary skilled worker would have a positive impact on the Canadian labor market, There was no Canadian citizen or permanent resident to fill the job vacancy.Foreign temporary workers will not adversely affect the employment opportunities of Canadian workers.

Application Requirement for LMIA:- LMIA is required by the employer who needs to hire an international skilled worker to fill a job vacancy. A document that is applied for by the employer, not the employee, and must be applied for within 6 months of starting employment. LMIA fee to be paid by the employer. An employer is required to apply for LMIA when hiring:-High wage workers, low wage workers, workers from seasonal agriculture program, workers from agricultural stream, a temporary worker need a 7 digit LMIA number to apply for a work permit.

At the time of applying for LMIA, the employer must submit: - LMIA application containing worker information, proof of business validity, proof of recruitment.

Upon receipt of the employer's LMIA application and related fees, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) processes and reviews the application. Anonymous Labor Market Impact Assessment:- An anonymous Labor Market Impact Assessment is implemented by an employer before a worker is scheduled. The name of the employee is not included in this. An anonymous labor market impact assessment is valid for 18 months.

Positions submitted for: Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program, Agricultural Stream (except Province of Quebec), Caregiver Program (except Quebec), Low Wage Stream (except Quebec), High Wage Stream (except Quebec), Anonymous Labor Market in Quebec Impact Assessment is only submitted for positions if the duration of employment is 30 days or less. Eligible for:-A foreign worker working in the agricultural stream, carer programme, low-wage stream, high-wage stream, LMIA exemption.
