The Suzuki Swift hatchback is all set to move into the fifth generation in the Japanese market this year. According to a recent report in the Japanese media, the global premiere of the hatchback will happen in late 2023. The sportier version of Swift (known as Swift Sport) will be launched in 2024 in an all new avatar. The next generation Swift can be launched in the Indian market in February 2024. Maruti Suzuki currently has no plans to launch the Swift Sport in India.

The major upgrade will be in the powertrain. According to reports, Toyota's Strong Hybrid technology can be found in All New Swift. The powertrain is expected to be a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol Atkinson cycle engine. However, the strong hybrid powertrain is reserved for the higher trim levels. Mileage could be around 35 kmpl (40kmpl).

The lower variants of the Swift are likely to continue with the 1.2L DualJet petrol engine, which is currently in use. It is with CNG fuel option. The hatchback will get the same 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options as the current model. The new Swift Sport (which is not expected to come to India as of now) is expected to be powered by a 1.4L K14D turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid technology.

There will be extensive changes in the exterior of Swift. The hatchback tries to be more angular than the current generation. The front will be updated with a new grille, sleek headlamps with new LED elements, faux air vents and revised bumper. The Swift also gets new body panels and blacked-out pillars.
