खत लिखे पते के पिन कोड है. चिट्ठी भेजने, कुरियर या मनी ऑर्डर के लिए पिन कोड की जरूरत थी. पिन कोड एक खास नंबर है जिस पर पोस्टल सिस्टम है. पिन कोड की शुरुआत 15 अगस्त 1972 थी.

1972 में पद्धति (Method in 1972)
पिन का मतलब पोस्टल इंडेक्स नंबर है. ये 1972 में था. इसकी शुरुआत श्रीराम भीकाजी वेलणकर ने थी. साल 1072 तक डाकघर में चिठ्ठियों को पढ़ता था और खंडों में विभाजित था. इसमें कई मुश्किलें थीं. कई बार लोगों के खत गलत एड्रेस पर थे. इनके लिए अक्षरों को सेक्शन में विभाजित के लिए यह पिन कोड पद्धति लागू थी.

पिन कोड बड़े काम का नंबर है. 6 नंबरों को मिल बनाया. ये कोड एरिया की जानकारी है. हर नंबर खास एरिया के लिए है. इससे पोस्ट ऑफिस के लोग सही जगह पैकेट को डिलिवर हैं. देश 6 जोन में डिवाइड है. रीजनल जोन और एक फंक्शनल जोन है. हर पिन कोड किसी ना किसी खास जोन की जानकारी है.
